Description

ProMeris for Dogs is a topical product used to control existing flea and tick infestations on pets and to prevent future re-infestation. ProMeris for Dogs is also used for the control of chewing lice and Demodectic mange.

For:
Dogs (8 weeks of age and older)

Benefits:
 Once a month treatment
 Easy to apply
 Product is waterproof

How it works:
ProMeris contains the active flea control ingredient, metaflumizone. This compound features an exclusive mode of action that attacks the fleas nervous system by blocking neuronal sodium channels, which results in paralysis and death. In addition to metaflumizone, ProMeris for Dogs contains amitraz, well recognized to provide broad-spectrum control of ticks.

Cautions:
Side effects may occur if product is licked after application. When used between the shoulder blades, as directed, licking isnt an issue. Amitraz is a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI). Do not use any other MAOI products such as Preventic Collar, Mitaban Dip, Anipryl, or Selegiline while using ProMeris for Dogs.

What is this product used for: ProMeris for Dogs is a topical, waterproof spot-on product for the control of existing flea and tick infestations, as well as the prevention of re-infestation, in dogs and puppies 8 weeks of age and older. ProMeris for Dogs kills the fleas that may cause flea allergy dermatitis. ProMeris for Dogs kills the ticks that may transmit Lyme disease, canine ehrlichiosis, or Rocky Mountain spotted fever (Brown Dog ticks, American Dog ticks, Lone Star ticks, Black-Legged or Deer ticks). ProMeris for Dogs is also used for the control of chewing lice and Demodectic mites.

How this product should be used: While monthly application is commonly recommended for effective flea and tick control in dogs, always consult with your veterinarian about the health of your pet and use ProMeris for Dogs as directed by your veterinarian. To help ensure this product works as effectively and safely as possible, follow these product application instructions:

1. Remove one applicator from the foil pouch. Hold the applicator upright for 3 seconds to avoid splash when opening. Use two hands to hold both ends of the applicator with printed side facing the user and narrow end pointing upward and away from the user.

2. To open, bend the tip of the applicator toward the user and break along the fracture line. Do not squeeze applicator when opening. Avoid touching applicator opening.

3. Fold tip back against the printed side of applicator. Hold the applicator in one hand using thumb to hold tip back against the printed side of the applicator. 4. Push the open tip through the pet's hair coat onto pet's skin between the shoulder blades. Squeeze applicator to apply entire contents to the pet's skin. Do not apply on the surface of the pet's hair coat. Avoid contact with treated area until dry.

What are the side effects: When licked from the application site dogs responded with head shaking, licking, lethargy and salivation. All of these responses resolved without treatment. When used between the shoulder blades, as directed, it should be difficult for a dog to lick the product. Individual sensitivities, while rare, may occur after the use of any pesticide product. If skin irritation, change in behavior, vomiting or diarrhea is observed and persists after the use of this product, call your veterinarian immediately.

What special precautions are there: Use ProMeris for Dogs on dogs only. Consult your veterinarian before using this product on aged, debilitated, medicated, pregnant or nursing animals. ProMeris for Dogs contains Amitraz, a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI). Consult your veterinarian before giving ProMeris for Dogs to dogs being treated with Mitaban Dip, Preventic Collar, selegiline, Anipryl, tricyclic antidepressants (amitriptylline), SSRI's (fluoxetine, Prozac, or Reconcile) and meperidine. Additional cautions supplied by the manufacturer when using ProMeris For Dogs include:

1. As with all pesticides, wearing rubber gloves during application will reduce the potential for skin contact.

2. As with other pesticide products, treating dogs in the evening and isolating them from your family during the night will reduce the amount of contact with this product.

3. Do not touch your face, eat, drink or smoke while applying this product.

4. As with many products, pregnant women, women who are breast-feeding, and diabetics should use particular care to avoid contact with this product during and following application.

5. This product contains amitraz, which like many other pesticides used on pets, may cause neurological effects if ingested, especially in children.

6. Do not allow children to mouth or kiss the treated area on the dog for at least a day or more after the product is applied to the dog.

7. People taking monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) medications should use particular care to avoid contact with this product during application and until it is completely dry.

8. Do not administer to dogs suffering from heat stress.

9. As with any product, do not allow ProMeris for dogs to contact the eyes of the dog.

10. Do not allow animals to lick each other following treatment.

11. Known side-effects resulting from the ingestion of Amitraz such as sedation, lethargy, and slow and shallow breathing may be observed in some dogs. These signs are generally mild and resolve without intervention within 24 to 48 hours. As stated on the label, if signs such as these persist you should consult your veterinarian.

12. Consult your veterinarian before applying ProMeris for dogs if your dog is currently using MAOI's or other types of medication.

In the event of overdose: Contact your veterinarian or veterinary emergency room.

How should I store this product: Store ProMeris in a cool dry place. Do not contaminate water, food, or feed by storage or disposal.
